Flatrate flight subscriptions sold out in record time
Wizz Air has shaken up the airline industry with a new offer. The Hungarian low-cost airline introduced a flat-rate flight subscription priced at 499 euros for a year (approximately 470 Swiss francs).
The annual flat-rate subscription comes with three key conditions: Flights can only be booked a maximum of 72 hours before the intended departure, and availability is not guaranteed. Additionally, Wizz Air charges an extra 9.99 euros per flight booking. Finally, reserving a specific seat or bringing luggage incurs additional fees.
Wizz Air checks additional contingent due to sales success
The annual subscription at a dumping price triggered a huge media response. Chair CEO Shpend Ibrahimi told Blick: «We see Wizz's campaign primarily as well-placed PR. Who would want to book a flight for a vacation, a family visit or a wedding only three days before departure without guaranteed availability?» asks the airline boss. The system is a lottery.
However, it is a lottery that is clearly well received by customers. According to Wizz Air, the contingent of 10,000 «All You Can Fly» tickets was sold out within 48 hours of the sales launch, reports the aviation portal «Aero».
The airline itself is probably surprised by the huge success. Wizz Air actually wanted to raise the ticket price to 599 euros from September. A Wizz Air spokesperson told the news agency “Bloomberg” that a further contingent is currently being examined.
With the flat rate, travel fans have the chance to use flights on all 780 international Wizz Air routes for twelve months. The flights will be bookable via the subscription from September 25.
