New mega skyscraper to shape the skyline of Dubai

Dubai is planning another big project: the Burj Azizi, poised to become the world's second-tallest skyscraper, is planned to rise near the iconic Burj Khalifa. However, whether this vision will come to fruition remains uncertain.

The world's tallest building is in Dubai: the Burj Khalifa, completed in 2010, reaches an impressive 829.8 meters. Now another impressive skyscraper is planned in the desert metropolis: at 725 meters, the Burj Azizi is set to become the second tallest building in the world.

According to the tech website «Futurezone», the mega-skyscraper will have 131 floors. It will feature the world's highest nightclub, observation deck and restaurant. It will also include luxury hotels, spas, swimming pools, apartments, gyms and cinemas.

The financing of around 1.6 billion US dollars (the equivalent of around 1.3 billion Swiss francs) appears to be firmly in place, with completion targeted for 2028. However, it remains to be seen whether the tower will actually be built – other mega-projects have already failed to be implemented.

Construction on the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, initially planned to reach 1,600 meters, began in 2012 but was halted for several years. Currently, construction of the tower is continuing at a reduced height of 1007 meters.

At 632 meters, the Shanghai Tower in China is currently the second-highest building in the world, followed by the Abraj Al Bait in Mecca, which measures 601 meters.
