The ferry crossing to Koh Samui is getting more expensive
The ferry crossing to the popular holiday islands in the Gulf of Thailand has become more expensive. New fares have been in effect on routes between Don Sak, Koh Samui, and Koh Phangan since March 14, 2026. According to the ferry company Seatran Ferry, the price adjustment was necessary to maintain operations.
The reason for this is the sharp rise in global energy and fuel prices, which has significantly increased the fleet's operating costs in recent weeks. For a car including driver, the price per crossing has risen from around 580 baht to up to 700 baht (approximately 17 Swiss francs). Pedestrians will also have to pay more: single tickets now cost around 210 baht (around five Swiss francs), representing a price increase of approximately 15 percent.
The background to this is a massive increase in oil prices on the world market, which is putting transport and logistics companies throughout Southeast Asia under pressure. At the same time, the Thai immigration authorities have intensified controls on Koh Samui and are specifically checking visas and work permits.
