These are the safest countries in the world in 2026
Those who want to travel the world in a relaxed manner no longer just look at dream beaches or Michelin stars, but increasingly at stability, healthcare and political reliability.
It's worth taking a look at the new security index from the comparison portal HelloSafe. The company has evaluated publicly available international data and analyzed countries based on five key factors – from crime and political stability to cyber and climate risks.
The index comprises 50 countries, ranked on a scale of 0 to 100 points. The study takes a broader view of security than before, considering not only traditional risks such as high crime rates, but also the performance of healthcare systems, digital threats, and environmental factors like natural disasters.
European countries dominate the ranking
With 92.4 points, Iceland secures first place, closely followed by Switzerland (91.1) and Norway (90.85). Overall, European countries dominate the ranking – an indication of stable institutions, high-quality infrastructure, and comparatively low crime rates.
Asia is also among the leaders: Singapore (ranked 6th) and Japan (ranked 8th) make it into the global top ten, mainly thanks to high urban safety and efficient health systems.
Safe travel destinations also exist outside of Europe and Asia. In Africa, Morocco leads the ranking. In the Americas, Canada remains a safe haven, while Chile is the highest-ranked South American country. For Oceania, New Zealand secures the top spot – thanks to stable institutions, a high quality of life, and effective crisis management.
The results show that those who plan carefully can find destinations on every continent that combine safety and travel experience.
