Finnair launches first Australia service

Finnair is expanding its route network to a new continent and will begin flying to Melbourne, Australia, for the first time in autumn 2026. The route will be served daily from Helsinki via Bangkok with an Airbus A350.

The new Finnair route to Melbourne connects Australia directly to the airline's extensive route network via the Finnair hub in Helsinki. This marks Finnair's first time serving a destination on the Australian continent.

«We are delighted to add a new continent to our network with this route. We are building a truly unique bridge between the northern and southern hemispheres,» says Christine Rovelli, Chief Revenue Officer at Finnair. Finnair expects the new route to be attractive in both directions, for travelers from Europe as well as for Australians.

Finnair guarantees seamless connections for its customers: The flight departs Helsinki shortly after midnight, arrives in Bangkok in the afternoon, and after a brief stopover continues to Melbourne, where it lands the following morning. The return flight departs Melbourne in the afternoon, makes an evening stopover in Bangkok, and lands in Helsinki the next morning, coinciding with morning departures to destinations throughout Europe.

Melbourne is Australia's second-largest city, considered the country's cultural capital, and renowned for its gastronomy, culture, and sports scene. Flights to Melbourne can be booked on the Finnair website starting December 15, 2025. The first flight is scheduled for October 25, 2026.
