6 beautiful travel destinations that are safe

Reto Suter

Where should you travel when the world is in turmoil? Travelnews lists six attractive holiday destinations that are currently considered safe.

Many people currently planning their holidays are faced with the question of where to go this year. Since the outbreak of the war in Iran at the end of February, the range of options has narrowed significantly. The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) has currently issued a travel advisory for countries in the Persian Gulf, such as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Even for countries not directly affected by the war but situated near the crisis zone, there is a noticeable reluctance – ranging from mild to very strong – regarding new bookings. These include, for example, Egypt, Turkey and Cyprus. This has led to an even greater focus on holiday destinations where travellers have no safety concerns whatsoever. Travelnews highlights six countries around the globe which, alongside numerous other states (coloured green and yellow on the map), are considered safe – based on assessments by crisis early warning expert A3M and the FDFA’s travel advice.

Argentina

On A3M’s Risk Map, Argentina is one of three countries in South America where the security risk is generally classified as low. The others are Uruguay and French Guiana. Even before the outbreak of the war, Argentina was one of the major rising stars among this year’s travel destinations. Various South America specialists confirmed to Travelnews as early as the end of January that demand had risen significantly. Argentina captivates with its enormous scenic diversity: from the glaciers of Patagonia and the Iguazú Falls to the vast expanses of the Pampas. The country also delights with its vibrant culture, characterised by tango, European heritage and the bustling metropolis of Buenos Aires. Last but not least, the excellent cuisine featuring beef and wine from Mendoza makes Argentina a particularly enjoyable destination.

Aruba

Aruba is one of the safest destinations in the Caribbean. The crime rate is low, and violent crimes against tourists are extremely rare. Accordingly, there are currently no specific safety advisories from the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) regarding travel to the island. Furthermore, Aruba boasts a sunny climate all year round and consistently pleasant temperatures. The island attracts visitors with its stunning white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. The relaxed atmosphere, good tourist infrastructure and high quality of service also make Aruba an attractive holiday destination.

Australia

The security situation in Australia is considered stable and safe. The FDFA also generally classifies travel there as safe. Whilst the crime rate may vary depending on the region and neighbourhood, it remains low overall. Australia boasts spectacular natural wonders – from the Great Barrier Reef to the red outback around Uluru. At the same time, vibrant cities such as Sydney and Melbourne attract visitors with their culture, cuisine and high quality of life. Last but not least, the relaxed way of life, the variety of outdoor activities and the unique wildlife all contribute to the country being regarded as a highly recommended destination.

Bulgaria

Bulgaria scores highly with excellent value for money, long sandy beaches and a wide selection of family-friendly all-inclusive hotels. At the same time, the country surprises many travellers with its culinary diversity and varied landscape. Bulgaria also has plenty to offer away from the coast: inland, historic cities such as Plovdiv, impressive Orthodox monasteries, diverse hiking trails in the Rhodopes and a growing wine and cultural tourism scene await. This growing popularity is also reflected in flight options: the Swiss holiday airline Edelweiss is expanding its operations and will launch its season to Varna as early as 7 June 2026. On A3M’s Risk Map, the security risk in Bulgaria is classified as low.

Malaysia

On A3M’s Risk Map, Malaysia is classified as one of the Asian countries in the green zone and is therefore considered a destination with a very low security risk. The FDF also generally considers travel to be safe. Restrictions apply only to the coasts in the north and east of the province of Sabah, as well as to offshore islands, which are not recommended for visits due to an increased risk of kidnapping. Furthermore, Malaysia captivates visitors with its cultural diversity, where Malay, Chinese and Indian influences converge. Beaches, rainforests and cities such as Kuala Lumpur offer a varied mix of nature and urban life.

Morocco

Morocco captivates visitors with its rich culture, where Arab, Berber and European influences converge. Cities such as Marrakesh and Fès impress with their bustling souks, historic buildings and a unique atmosphere. Added to this are varied landscapes that make the country particularly diverse. On the African continent, A3M classifies three countries as completely safe in terms of security – Morocco is one of them, alongside Namibia and Botswana. The FDFA also currently sees no increased security risk for travel to Morocco.
