New pricing model for visas in Egypt

Egypt has increased the fees for the visa on arrival. It now costs more than the e-visa, which can be applied for in advance.

Swiss citizens still require a visa to enter Egypt. However, there is now a price difference depending on how the visa is obtained. Since March 1, 2026, the visa on arrival, issued directly upon entry at the airport or port, costs US$30 instead of the previous US$25.

All major tourist entry points are affected, including airports such as Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Cairo, as well as relevant seaports, as the industry portal «FVW» (subscription required) writes.

The cost of the electronic visa (e-visa), which can be applied for online before departure, remains unchanged. It still costs US$25 and is currently the more affordable option. Both visa types entitle the holder to a stay of up to 30 days in the country.

The price adjustment is likely to influence traveler behavior. Many tour operators already recommend applying for visas online in advance—a trend that could now accelerate.
