Swiss cuts more long-haul flights
Travelers departing from Zurich should brace for further cutbacks in Swiss’s flight schedule. Following the December 2024 announcement of reduced overseas connections, the airline is implementing additional cuts in its 2025 summer timetable.
According to the 'Aeroroutes' portal, the latest cuts affect connections to Chicago and Shanghai. Between March 30 and June 30, 2025, weekly flights from Zurich to Chicago will drop from fourteen to ten. The reduction is even more significant on the Shanghai route, where only three weekly flights will remain—down from seven.
The drastic reduction in flights to China is raising questions. It seems that demand for trips to the Chinese economic metropolis has fallen significantly. This could be due to the continued reluctance of business travellers to travel, or possibly to the economic and political conditions affecting air traffic between Europe and China.
For passengers, this means that early planning is more important than ever. Anyone considering a trip to Chicago or Shanghai should book their flights in good time or check out alternative routes with a stopover.
