«Dream of the Desert» rolls in 2026
Saudi Arabia aims to redefine luxury travel with the «Dream of the Desert», the region’s first five-star luxury train. The project is a collaboration between Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) and the Italian luxury brand Arsenale S.p.A. and is scheduled to launch in autumn 2026. The train will run the 1,300-kilometre route between the capital Riyadh and Qurayyat, offering passengers a unique travel experience.
The luxury train was designed by architect Aline Asmar d'Amman and combines modern luxury with traditional Saudi aesthetics. According to the Saudi Press Agency, the interiors are inspired by the desert landscape and iconic Saudi landmarks such as Madain Saleh and Hail. Guests can look forward to refined craftsmanship, warm earthy tones, luxurious textiles and artful decorative elements.
Emerald-coloured sofas, international top chefs
The train's 14 carriages house a total of 34 exclusive suites designed in an Art Deco style. The striking elements include emerald-coloured sofas, fine wood panelling and lavishly decorated sleeping areas. In the corridors of the train, artworks and photographs are presented that reflect Saudi culture and history. The exterior of the «Dream of the Desert» is characterised by polished chrome and violet highlights.

In addition to its luxurious suites, the train features a first-class restaurant, where top local and international chefs will cater to guests' culinary preferences. The gastronomic concept is intended to combine Saudi cuisine with modern international influences. The train's reception lounges are inspired by traditional majlis interiors, with intricately carved wooden details and geometric patterns. The train will also offer curated cultural programmes that give passengers an insight into Saudi Arabia's traditions and heritage.
The «Dream of the Desert» is part of the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to establish the country as a luxury travel destination. According to the Saudi Minister of Transport, Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, the train is also an important part of the national transport strategy, which is intended to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics centre.
