Locarno voted Switzerland's most beautiful small town

The popular holiday destination on Lake Maggiore beat nine competitors in a public vote, receiving 30 per cent of the total ballots.

Locarno has been voted the most beautiful small town in Switzerland by the Travelbook community. The award ceremony took place in Berlin, as announced by Ticino Turismo.

Locarno topped a public vote, beating nine other competitors with 30 percent of the total votes. Around 200,000 followers of Travelbook on Facebook and Instagram took part in the vote.

Mayor Nicola Pini, who was unable to attend the Travelbook Awards 2024 ceremony in Berlin in person, sent his thanks in a video message. In his message, he emphasised that German-speaking friends are always warmly welcomed in Locarno, whether it be for a holiday or to settle in the city.

‘This recognition is a reward for what has already been achieved in Locarno and an incentive to continue working on enhancing our public spaces and the urban area to create a diverse and high-quality range of leisure and cultural activities,’ said Pini

Fabio Bonetti, director of the Lake Maggiore and Valleys Tourism Organisation, also emphasises the importance of this award: ‘Being honoured by a strategically important market like Germany, which has always been our second most important market, confirms the attractiveness of Locarno and the entire region for a discerning international audience.’

This award not only serves as recognition of the work done, but also as a guide for travellers who have to find their way through an ever wider and more competitive range of offers.
