The Top 18 of the most crowded tourist destinations

These cities have the highest number of tourists in relation to their population with Croatia taking the lead.

The holiday home portal Holidu.ch looked around for the biggest tourist hotspots - and did a simple calculation: the number of inhabitants in relation to the number of tourists.

The top 18 include well-known overtourism locations such as Dubrovnik, Venice and Florence. However, there are also a few cities that might come as a surprise in the ranking.

These are the top 18 (tourists per inhabitant):

  3. Venice, 21
  4. Heraklion, 18
  5. Florence, 13
  6. Reykjavik, 12
  7. Amsterdam, 12
  8. Lisbon, 11

The ranking is based on figures from 2023.
