Thailand to significantly increase passenger fees for international flights

Thailand is set to make international air travel more expensive. From early 2026, passenger service charges for international departures will rise by more than 50 percent.

Travelers should prepare for higher flight costs when departing from Thailand: the Thai Civil Aviation Authority has approved a request by Airports of Thailand (AOT) for a significant increase in passenger service charges.

As reported by the aviation portal «Airliners», the fee will increase from 730 baht to 1,120 baht—equivalent to just under 30 Swiss francs. The new charge will be automatically added at the time of ticket purchase and included directly in the airfare.

Authorities say the increase is necessary to fund investments in airport security, infrastructure, and passenger comfort. The additional revenue is expected to support upgraded facilities, more efficient operational processes, and improved services across the country’s major airports.

Airports of Thailand operates Thailand’s six largest airports, including Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports, as well as Phuket and Chiang Mai. Together, these airports handle around 35 million international passengers each year. AOT estimates that the higher fees will generate additional annual revenue of approximately 10 billion baht (around 240 million Swiss francs).

Domestic travelers will not be affected by the change: passenger fees for internal flights will remain unchanged at 130 baht (about three Swiss francs). Separately, Thailand announced in May 2025 plans to strengthen air passenger rights, particularly in cases of flight delays and cancellations.
