Google Flights launches AI feature in Switzerland

Starting next week, Google aims to revolutionize travel search in the DACH region with its new AI-powered «Flight Deals» feature. The rollout will initially begin in beta mode.

Google is expanding its travel search engine with a new feature that could bring significant changes: With «Flight Deals,» the company is introducing an AI-powered search that no longer relies on rigid filter menus, but on natural voice input. Starting next week, the feature will be available for the first time in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland – initially as a beta version.

While many travel agencies and platforms are already trying to support undecided customers with automated advice, Google is now going a step further. The new feature allows users to simply describe their travel plans – much like in a conversation. Examples such as «I want to take a city break to a place with a wide range of museums» or «a ten-day ski holiday in a top-class resort with fresh snow» are enough for the AI to find suitable destinations.

The underlying technology interprets the intent behind the request, analyzes travel dates and duration, and compares everything with real-time data from Google Flights. The database includes more than 300 partners, including airlines and booking sites. The result is a personalized list of destinations, often with suggestions you might not have considered yourself.

Beta launch in the DACH region

In a blog post, Google explains that “Flight Deals” is designed especially for flexible travelers who prioritize finding the lowest prices. Because the feature can respond to complex, naturally worded requests, there's no need to experiment with data, filters, and destination regions.

Following an initial test phase, «Flight Deals» is now being rolled out internationally, with the DACH region among the first markets. At the same time, Google is expanding its so-called AI mode across its services, adding agent-like capabilities—for instance, handling restaurant reservations, booking event tickets, or scheduling appointments. Travel planning is seen as one of its key applications.

Improved digital search

Google Flights has been a popular tool for price comparisons and flexible travel dates for years. With its new AI feature, the company aims not only to simplify searches but also to redefine the user experience. Thanks to semantic analysis of natural language input, the AI is designed to recognize subtle nuances – for example, whether someone is looking for relaxation, culture, sports, or a culinary highlight.

The fact that Google is initially launching the tool as a beta demonstrates how strongly user feedback will be incorporated into its further development. The company wants to investigate how people interact with AI-based travel planning – and what expectations they have of a modern flight search.

With «Flight Deals,» Google aims to make the search for cheap flights more intuitive and efficient. For bargain hunters, the feature offers a convenient way to discover suitable travel destinations using natural language – including those not previously on their list.
