These are the 10 most dangerous cities in Europe
Europe is considered a safe continent. However, tourists are not immune to theft, assault, or violence everywhere. A recent analysis by the security company Reolink, known for its surveillance cameras, reveals where things can get particularly dangerous.
For its study, Reolink evaluated various data sources—including the Numbeo Crime Index, official police statistics, tourist surveys, local media reports, and academic studies on social risk factors such as unemployment and inequality. This resulted in a ranking that takes into account both the objective crime situation and subjective security perceptions.
France and Great Britain dominate the ranking
Coventry, UK, leads the way. With a crime index of 66 and over 11,000 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants – including almost 4,000 violent crimes and the same number of property crimes – the city is considered a high-risk area according to Reolink.
Marseille takes second place, with the southern French port city struggling with drug trafficking and gang-related crime. Birmingham, the U.K.’s second-largest city, ranks third, marked by persistently high levels of violent and property crime.
Naples in southern Italy ranks fourth. The Camorra remains active, and pickpocketing and car break-ins are commonplace. It is followed by Montpellier in southern France, where assaults and thefts are on the rise, particularly among the young student scene.

Sixth place goes to the Belgian metropolis of Liège . A French quartet completes the top ten: Grenoble, Nantes, Paris and Lyon. While Paris is particularly notable for pickpockets in the metro and tourist districts, in cities like Liège and Grenoble, nighttime assaults and burglaries are the main causes of concern.
Nevertheless, Europe remains one of the safest travel destinations in the world. However, those traveling in these cities should be especially careful: carry valuables discreetly, choose well-lit paths at night, and find out about local risk zones in advance.
In addition to the risk cities, Reolink has also listed those places that are considered particularly safe: The Icelandic capital Reykjavík tops the list, followed by Zurich, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Vienna.
