New search to solve the MH370 mystery
The search for the remains of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which disappeared over ten years ago, could begin today, Monday (24 February). The Ocean Infinity ship Armada 7806 left Mauritius on 8 February and set a course for a search area of around 15,000 square kilometres off the Australian coast.
However, several Chinese fishing boats made the approach difficult, making evasive manoeuvres necessary. According to the news portal «Watson», experts estimate that the crew of the Armada 7806 has about 15 days to complete the search before a stopover at a port in Western Australia becomes unavoidable.
There is no confirmation that Malaysia has given the green light for the new search. On 13 February, Lieutenant-Colonel Muhammad Amir bin Abdullah from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau told Watson that the contract with Ocean Infinity had been postponed. This led independent experts to suspect that the Malaysian government was playing for time and was not at all interested in finding the wreckage.
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which was en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board on 8 March 2014, disappeared from the radar screens without a trace. The large-scale underwater search in an area of 120,000 square kilometres did not yield any results at the time – a circumstance that makes the fate of the flight one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history.
