Interhome nearing sale to HomeToGo
In February 2024, Migros made a surprising announcement that caused people to sit up and take notice: it wanted to divest itself of its travel subsidiary Hotelplan. However, this bombshell was initially followed by a long period of inactivity.
Then, all of a sudden, the Luxembourg-based holiday home broker Hometogo set things in motion by expressing an interest in the Hotelplan Group's crown jewel, Interhome. Shortly afterwards, rumors began circulating that the German Dertour Group might also be interested in acquiring the remaining Hotelplan units. The sale imminent until Migros CEO Mario Irminger announced in December that the deal would not go through until 2025.
But the new year began with a bang: all at once, the British holiday home giant Awaze became the focus of speculation seemingly taking the lead in the bidding war for Interhome. However, the situation has taken another dramatic turn—now, it appears that HomeToGo is on the verge of acquiring Interhome.
Hotelplan's future remains unclear
Following a bidding process and based on exclusive negotiations, an agreement has been reached with Migros on the key commercial terms for the acquisition of Interhome, Hometogo announced on Thursday.
The purchase price is expected to be in the low hundreds of millions (CHF), including deferred payments in the high tens of millions (CHF).
Hometogo plans to integrate Interhome, the second-largest provider of vacation home rentals and management in Europe, into its own group. According to Hometogo, Interhome has around 40,000 vacation homes in 28 countries.
However, the transaction is not yet certain. Talks are still ongoing, and a final purchase agreement has not yet been signed. Since the deal is expected to be subject to certain closing conditions, there is no guarantee that the transaction will ultimately be completed.
The future of the remaining Hotelplan units remains unclear. So far, Migros has not sold the rest of the Hotelplan Group, a Migros spokeswoman said on Thursday evening in response to an inquiry from the news agency AWP. Negotiations are still ongoing.
