Hotelplan sale not expected until 2025
The sale of Hotelplan is on the home straight, but the deal is likely to be delayed. The sale was originally due to be finalised by the end of 2024, but it now seems clear that the handover will be delayed until 2025. This is what Migros CEO Mario Irminger said in an interview with «SonntagsBlick».
«We still need a few official clarifications», says Irminger. «In the UK, for example, where the Hotelplan Group also operates, a change of ownership in the travel industry requires official authorisation in order to prevent consumer claims.» Migros will therefore probably not be able to communicate the sale until the first quarter of 2025.
There has been speculation for weeks that a consortium consisting of the German Dertour Group and the holiday home broker Hometogo could win the bid. Although Irminger did not want to disclose any details about the ongoing negotiations, there are increasing signs that these two companies are serious contenders.
Sales with a focus on employees and customers
Irminger emphasises one thing: the price will not be the only decisive factor when deciding on the sale. «With every sale, we try to find the best possible solution for customers and our employees», he says. Migros is prepared to accept a lower selling price in order to safeguard jobs.
The comprehensive reorganisation of Migros has also given rise to many critical voices in recent months. Emotional reactions from affected employees are understandable, says Irminger.
Nevertheless, he remains convinced that the decisions made were necessary. There has also been a lot of positive feedback from employees and customers who believe that the reorganisation was the right decision.
