What is happening in Silvaplana?
Silvaplana, a picturesque town in the Swiss Canton of Graubünden, has achieved its latest success. Over 1,000 people gathered on Saturday to celebrate the grand opening of Scoulina & Chüra Marmotta. In just one year of construction, a new centre has been created that serves as a kindergarten and childcare facility.
Since the opening of the bypass tunnel in 2018, the modern new building is part of a series of projects that have made Silvaplana a popular place for locals, second homeowners and holiday guests since the bypass tunnel opened in 2018. «The Scoulina and the Chüra Marmotta are a further investment in the future of our liveable municipality and also an absolute added value for employees, including those in tourism», says Daniel Bosshard, who has been mayor since 2016 and has big plans.
Nemo for a visit
Following the opening of the bypass tunnel in 2018, Silvaplana has continued to enhance its appeal with several innovative developments. The village square in the now traffic-calmed center was beautifully redesigned, an electric bus was introduced for local transport, and a workspace was created for digital nomads. Currently underway is a project to build ten affordable primary residences for families in the heart of the village, complete with an underground car park that will also serve employees and visitors to Scoulina and Chüra Marmotta.
Looking ahead, Silvaplana will host exciting events like the 2025 Freestyle World Championships in the Upper Engadine, and, thanks to a pre-ESC victory contract, a free concert featuring superstar Nemo on August 1st.
Silvaplana lies at 1815 metres above sea level, in the middle of the Upper Engadin lake landscape. The village at the foot of the local mountain Corvatsch offers a varied hotel and catering scene as well as sports facilities and activities in summer and winter. Skiers, mountain bikers and hiking enthusiasts can be found here as well as windsurfers and kitesurfers.
