Six good reasons to travel to Slovenia
Rebeka Kumer-Bizjak, Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board for Germany and Switzerland, is leading a prominent delegation on this week's workshop tour - in addition to six workshop partners, the Slovenian Ambassador to Switzerland, Iztok Grmek, was also present at the stop in Bern, as well as Matiaz Han, Minister of Economy, Tourism and Sport, Tjaša Deleja, Economic Counsellor at the Slovenian Embassy, and Tobias Pogorevc, CEO of Helvetic Airways with Slovenian roots.
After the exciting Slovenia presentation, many Swiss travel professionals now realise that Slovenia is absolutely worth a visit for several reasons.
Why to Slovenia
Slovenia is safe. Slovenia was recognised as one of the safest travel destinations in the world by the Global Peace Index 2022.
Slovenia is green. Slovenia is not only a green country in terms of landscape, but also when it comes to sustainability: Slovenia is at the forefront worldwide. Several destinations have been awarded the «Green Destination» certificate, 60 destinations in Slovenia currently carry the seal of quality, and the trend is rising!
Slovenia connects Europe. In almost no other country can you find such a variety of landscapes and regions in such a small area as in Slovenia. From the Alps to the Mediterranean, the Karst and the Pannino Plain, Slovenia offers perfect conditions for outdoor enthusiasts in particular.
Slovenia offers unique experiences. Unforgettable adventures off the beaten track await under the «Slovenia Unique Experiences» » label. From culinary delights to culture and cave experiences, there is something to captivate everyone.
Slovenia combines nature and culture. Caves, waterfalls, thermal baths, cities and six UNESCO World Heritage Sites await visitors to Slovenia.
Slovenia has unique cuisine. Probably no other country in the world has such a high density of Michelin stars or Gault Millau awards in such a small area as Slovenia. Ana Ros stands as one of the foremost ambassadors of Slovenian cuisine, having already been honored with the prestigious "Best Female Chef in the World" award. However, don’t rule out a visit to the numerous inns outside the realm of starred dining.
Another highlight in Slovenia is the wine. Also joining us in Zurich was sommelier Ozbej Peterle, who told us about Slovenia’s 15,000 hectares of vineyards, the numerous winegrowers, and the rarity of Slovenian wine outside of its homeland—it's so exceptional that Slovenians prefer to savor it themselves! During the subsequent wine tasting, the participants were able to convince themselves of the quality of Slovenian wines.
